Osteoporosis Program
Osteoporosis, a condition in which a person's bones become more porous and fragile, is
a major public health threat for more than 28 million Americans, 80 percent of whom are
women. Osteoporosis is responsible for 1.5 million fractures annually. The Osteoporosis
Program is a resource for information on osteoporosis, and in conjunction with the
Osteoporosis Coalition of North Carolina, gives workshops across the state to inform and
educate health care professionals and consumers about osteoporosis. Trying to increase
public awareness regarding osteoporosis, the program disseminates a vast array of
materials regarding osteoporosis. The program provides administrative support to the
Osteoporosis Prevention Task Force.
