The North Carolina Public Health Awareness Program is a cooperative
initiative between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public
Health, the office of the state public health director (through the local health services
section), and major public health organizations in North Carolina. The program is designed
to increase citizen involvement and appreciation for North Carolinas public health
programs and services through the following activities:
media facilitator training for local health department staff;
production and dissemination of promotion materials (logos, slogans,
public service announcements);
consultation, technical assistance; continuing education and training in
the areas of social marketing, media advocacy and health communication;
coordination of public health promotion activities such as North
Carolina Public Health Month; and
dissemination of relevant research relating to health communication;
public health promotion; and social marketing.
