Heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes account
for over 42,000 deaths each year in North Carolina. While injuries
take the lives of an additional 4,000 people across the state.
Many of these deaths could be prevented by adopting healthy behaviors
such as eating nutritious foods, being physically active, avoiding
tobacco and wearing seat belts. The NC Division of Public Health's
Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Program is working to reduce
death and disabilities through education, policy change, and working
with community partners to ensure a long, productive, and healthy
life for all North Carolinians. Many of North Carolina's chronic
disease and injury prevention programs are supported by grants
from the US Department of Health & Human Services'
Preventive Health and Health Services (PHHS) Block Grant.
