"I'm
Too Cool for Cavities" is a campaign designed to promote
better oral health practices in order to reduce dental decay in children.
Our primary goal with this campaign is to encourage children and their
parents to feel good about having excellent oral health. Helping our
children avoid the pain and discomfort of dental infections results
in children with improved overall health, positive self-esteem and
confident smiles.
Currently
in North Carolina, 80 percent of 11-year-olds (5th grade children)
have never had decay in their permanent teeth. This percentage can
be partly attributed to oral health promotion and education provided
by the North Carolina Oral Health Section. Our goal is to see this
percentage increase, by 2010, to 87 percent of 5th grade children
who have never had decay in their permanent teeth. In addition, we
want to see the percentage of 5th grade children with dental sealants
increase from 37 percent to 50 percent by 2010. Our desire is that
many more children will be able to say, " I'm Too Cool for Cavities
".
