Residential Fire Injury Prevention, "Get Alarmed, North Carolina"

The purpose of this initiative is to increase the prevalence of functioning smoke detectors in residences with children under the age of five and adults over 65 years of age. In addition to smoke detectors, residents receive fire safety education information to reduce their risk of fire-related injury. Injury and Violence Prevention has a cooperative agreement with the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control of the Centers for Disease Control an Prevention to evaluate these interventions in four local health departments in the state. Injury and Violence Prevention also collaborates with other state agencies to provide educational resources and smoke detectors to fire departments, health departments and other community-based organizations to promote fire safety in communities throughout the state.
